About Nature And Lace Collection:
2006-2008
In 2006, I decided to examine a box of lace that I had inherited. Some of these pieces were made by my female ancestors, and some were collected and treasured by them. Some were parts of blouses or dresses, carefully excised from a dress, to be inserted into another dress. Lace has been cherished for generations, and evokes references to royalty, fine crafts, sensuousness, and even social class.
After I printed the lace pieces on large photographic paper, I began to make botanical layouts in response to the shapes of the lace. I used dried leaves and flowers from my garden.
These images are all photograms printed on 20 x 16 gelatin silver gelatin paper. They are exhibited in pairs, or in a large grid of 12 prints.
