Laurie Sieverts Snyder grew up in Ithaca, NY where she was active in sports (skiing), music, and art. She received her BFA from Cornell University, and her MFA from Syracuse University, and taught at Cornell, Syracuse University, Ithaca College and Tompkins Cortland Community College.
In 1993, Laurie Snyder moved to Baltimore to teach photography at the Maryland Institute College of Art, where she became Chair of the Department. For more than 20 years, she made Baltimore, MD her home.
Laurie has exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Cornell University, Pyramid Atlantic, The Smithsonian Museum, Maryland Arts Council, Goucher College, Loyola University, University of Kentucky, and at the Kathleen Ewing Gallery in Washington DC among others.
Teaching has been central to Laurie Snyder’s life. Whether teaching skiing to children, pottery to adults, or photography and book making to college students, teaching nourishes and stimulates her creative life. She has recently returned to her Ithaca home, retiring from MICA.
